COVID-19 Update and Gratitude

While one session* is coming to an end this week, another is about to begin! Cuando una puerta se cierra, otra se abre. (When one door closes, another opens).

The last few weeks have flown by and there have been a lot of big changes at Rojas Spanish, and in the world, due to la pandemia (pandemic). The tragedy and challenges are all around us and it’s important we reconocer (acknowledge) all that has been lost. And, it is equally important to savor our many blessings. The past month has showed us how strong the Rojas Spanish community truly is.

You – our students – adapted to new technology, new class structure and una nueva normalidad (a new normal). And, despite these challenges, our community has continued to show up! The positivity, dedication and empathy demonstrated throughout this crisis has been una inspiración (an inspiration). You have been an incredible blessing during these hard times and we are grateful for your commitment and optimism.

This unwavering optimism encouraged the Rojas team to see these challenges as an opportunity. The opportunity to improve our program, the opportunity for more practice, the opportunity to be innovative. We have worked hard to ensure you continue to receive the same quality of learning you have come to love. We are thankful for these opportunities and excited to see what the next chapter holds.

¡Seguimos adelante con nuestra práctica de español! (Let us continue with our Spanish practice!)

Desde el fondo de nuestros corazones, ¡Gracias! – Rojas Spanish team

How have classes changed due to the COVID-19 virus?

In order for us to stay in compliance with CDC guidelines, all Rojas Spanish classes are now being offered online via Zoom video conferencing. When you register, you will sign up for one class (as we have always done) – in addition to your normal class, you will have unlimited access to ALL classes, all levels, every week! This will allow you more than 25 hours of practice each week.

Each class is 60-90 minutes in length and will maintain a small group size – for more individualized attention.

What is the schedule for classes?

Tell me more about the “workshops”.

We are so excited about these new classes! We identified areas many of our students were struggling and created new workshop classes focused on these three specific areas.

  1. Verb conjugation and Prepositions

In this workshop we are going to break down the most commonly used verb conjugations in Spanish – focusing on the unique sound pattern for each. Identifying the sound pattern will allow you to speak with much more fluency and recall the many tenses more quickly. Alongside the verb tenses, we are going to focus on prepositions. How, where and when to use them. This workshop is for all skill levels.

  1. Listening Comprehension

To listen and comprehend is the basis of communication. Through the improvement of these skills you can take your Spanish from basic communication to deep, detailed, dialogue. In this workshop, we will practice listening and responding – using varied levels of difficulty. The perfect challenge for all skill levels!

  1. Phonetics and Dictation

¡Vamos! as we dive deep into the beautiful blend of Spanish vowels and their sounds. The unique Spanish sound is very important and native speakers rely heavily on sound to internalize words, phrases and meaning. If you are interested in improving your pronunciation and writing – this is the perfect workshop for you!

When will classes be held in-person again?

Unfortunately, we do not know when classes will be held in-person again. Your safety and wellbeing is our top priority and we will continue to do whatever is in the best interest of you and your fellow students. We absolutely plan to move back to in-person classes as soon as it is safe to do so.

Beginning this week, we will be posting weekly updates on our website so you can stay up to date on any changes. We will e-mail out a link to these updates – stay tuned!
