What level is best for me?
Here is where you start! Listed below are the different Spanish levels offered at Rojas Spanish. When you register you will choose one level for your “home class”. After you register, if you find the class you chose is not the best fit – we will work with you to make needed adjustments, at no extra charge.

You have no previous Spanish experience. You need to start at the very beginning with basic vocabulary, expressions and simple verb conjugation.
You took a few classes in high school or college and have a little previous Spanish experience, but would like to review the basics. You know basic vocabulary and small phrases or expressions. You do not want to start at the very beginning, but need to a quick review before moving forward.
You can understand and use basic expressions and simple phrases. You can introduce yourself and others. You can ask and answer basic questions; such as, where you live, people you know and things you have. You can communicate in a very simple way.
You can understand full sentences and frequently used expressions. You can speak simply about very basic personal and family information, local geography, employment, etc. You can communicate about routine tasks that require a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and common issues. You can describe, in simple terms, aspects of your background, immediate environment and immediate needs.
You can clearly understand the main points of normal conversation pertaining to matters regularly discussed in work, school, leisure, etc. You can handle most situations when travelling in an area where the language is spoken. You can produce simple, connected sentences and phrases on topics familiar to you or of personal interest. You can describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes and ambitions; as well as, briefly give reasons and explanations on these opinions and plans.
You can understand main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in your field or specialization. You can communicate with native speakers on some level of fluency, eliminating confusion or strain for either party. You can communicate clearly and in detail concerning a wide range of subjects. Offering explanations of viewpoints pertaining to various issues and giving the advantages and disadvantages of various opinions.
You can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognize implicit meaning. You can express yourself fluently and spontaneously without obviously needing to search for expressions. You can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. You can articulate clear, well-structured and detailed thoughts concerning complex subjects. Demonstrating controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
You can easily understand virtually everything heard or read. You can summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in an articulate manner. You can express yourself with fluency and precision; differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex of situations.
